Claire Caffery – Artist Spaces

Biography:

Claire Caffery received her degree in Art Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She taught for five years, acting as Art Department Head, at Cecilia High School. Claire’s other experiences teaching art include work at elementary schools, camps, museums, and children’s groups. Claire values an open-ended, inquiry approach to object-based learning and problem-based art exploration. Her experience as a music performer enables her to comfortably communicate with groups and engage diverse learning styles. Claire creates illustrations, murals and portraits on commission as well as exhibiting her own work in a variety of media.

Program Description:

In response to the exhibition Tina Freeman: Artist Spaces, Claire Caffery has designed two arts-integrated field trip experiences. Elementary students will investigate the connections between explorers and artists and learn to explore a museum. Older students will examine form and function by looking at photographs of different artists’ studio spaces and discussing design choices. Both field trip experiences will include a tour, a gallery activity, and a hands-on art project. Teachers will receive pre and post visit activities and a lesson plan that meets art and literacy standards.

There are limited opportunities to partake in this program. It is free to attend; you only have to pay for transportation.
